One Month Old
Baby Brendan is one month old and doing great! He had his appointment with the Urology Specialist this week and his kidneys look better. The right kidney does not have fluid backed up anymore. However, the left kidney does still have a little fluid and seems to have a drainage problem. We will have more extensive tests and ultrasounds done when he is three months old which is when they will be able to tell a little more about what the problem is. We are still not too worried and keep praying that the problem will correct itself like the right side did. It doesn't seem like he is experiencing discomfort or difficulties with this issue so we will just keep watching it closely. Otherwise, he is a very content little baby and has even tried to crack his first smiles. We are even getting a little more sleep at nights so I think he finally figured out night from day!

2 Weeks Old
Brendan is two weeks old today. We have spent the last couple weeks getting to know eachother, eating, sleeping, and of course lots of diaper changes (which lead to outfit changes because he loves to go to the bathroom after I take off his diaper). He is a good napper during the day and loves to keep me up at night to have snacks. Nathan has been very helpful watching the baby so that I can take some much needed naps. Brendan is a really sweet baby and has only recently began to get a little fussy which is to be expected at his age.
He had his kidney ultrasound yesterday and it looks like only one kidney has fluid backed up. We will get the results next week from the Urology Specialist. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the issue will correct itself over time and he will not need a surgery.
He had his two week pediatrician check-up today and now weighs 7 pounds and 1 ounce. He also got his heel pricked for the PKU blood test so he was not very happy at the visit. Overall, everything went well and he is a healthy boy! His next pediatrican appointment is for his one month check-up in two weeks.
We are very thankful that our little boy is doing well, however Mrs. Pookerton is not doing as great. I found out today that I will have to have surgery on my episiotomy fourth degree tear. I guess the vacumm that evacuated him after his heart rate dropped served its purpose to get him out quickly but was not so nice to me. I will see a specialist next month and will probably have a surgery scheduled in three months. Basically I am in a lot of pain but it seems to be getting better. I definitely took one for the team during this adventure! I have to say that it is hard to be mad because all the pain was worth getting our sweet Baby Brendan! Sorry if this was too much information but I thought some of you would appreciate an honest update on how I am doing.
Thanks again for all the phone calls, help, gifts, and meals from our friends and family!

Brendan Tyler Arrived!
Baby Brendan was born December 26th at 11:21AM. He was 6 pounds 14 ounces and 19 inches long. He is very healthy, happy, and cute!

I went into labor Christmas evening and arrived to the hospital around 1AM on the morning of the 26th. We went home from the hospital last Thursday and are doing really well.
Brendan will have his kidneys checked by a specialist next week so we will keep everyone posted. We think he is doing pretty well because he is not having any trouble going to the bathroom (which would be a problem if his kidneys were not functioning at all).
The first picture is from Christmas Eve when I was icing my swollen feet and having my first contractions (which stopped that night and resumed the next evening after my water broke at 11:55PM on 12/25).
Hope you enjoy the pictures of Brendan. He is a very sweet baby.
* I also want to thank all our family and friends that have been so supportive through our pregnancy, birth, and first few days home with our newborn. We have enjoyed all the meals & gifts and are very appreciative and thankful! We love sharing this special time with everyone! Call us if you want to stop by and visit the newest Pookerton! *
